Decal Installation Instructions: The Rvinyl "Wet Method"

Rvinyl.com Preparation Guidelines:
- Ideal application temperature range is 70º to 80º F (21º to 27º C).
- Application during periods of high relative humidity is not recommended.
- Surfaces must be clean and dry prior to application.

Decal Installation Guideline Step 1: Surface Cleaning Guidelines
- For proper adhesion, clean all surfaces using a 2:1 mixture of water to Isopropyl alcohol, Prepsol, or cleaning solutions available at in our application section of Rvinyl.com Note: Prior to cleaning test solution in an inconspicuous area.
- Use a clean, lint-free cloth to cleanse the application area. Insure it is dry and all oils and residues have been removed prior to application.
- A good test is to see if masking tape will stick to the application surface, if it sticks then the surface is ready for application.  If it does not stick then further cleaning may be necessary.

Decal Installation Guideline Step 2: Decal Alignment
Measure and mark the area where you wish to apply your graphic using a water- soluble pencil. In keep in mind the actual graphic size in relation to the application area to ensure your graphic will fit in the desired location. Take your decal (transfer material and backing) and tape the upper right corner of it to the surface. Step away, make sure it is level.

Decal Installation Guideline Step 3: Decal Alignment

While the decal is attached to the surface with tape, carefully peel off the backing paper. The decal should stay applied to the transfer tape at this time. If it does not, use a squeegee to apply pressure to ensure that the decal and transfer tape act as one and lift together.
Note: Be sure to carefully lift the liner, you do not want to tear the graphic or decal.

Decal Installation Guideline Step 4: Removing the Backing Paper
Cut away the exposed part of the release liner or backing paper. This prepares the graphic for application and adhesion to the surface.
Note: Take caution not to scratch the application surface area with your scissors.
Decal Installation Guideline Step 5: The "Wet" Application
Note: Application fluid may be made with 6 to 8 drops of dishwashing soap to water or purchased in the application section of our website.

Spray the left side of the surface with application fluid. Place the left side of the decal down on the surface, carefully aligning it with the previously drawn marks. Repeat on the other side.

Note: Use the dry method for small decals that do not require repositioning. If the decal has a grainy plastic opaque premask only use the dry method.
Decal Installation Guideline Step 6: The Squeege
With the premask still intact, squeegee or rub the decal to the surface by applying pressure and smooth even strokes. Start at the middle of the decal and work your way out to the edge.

Continue to slowly, but firmly squeege the entire graphic onto the surface, so that transfer tape will separate from graphic and the application fluid is removed. Your decal should now be bonded to the application surface.
Decal Installation Guideline Step 7: Removing the Transfer Tape
After waiting a few minutes to insure proper adhesion, carefully and slowly peel the tape off at a sharp angle.

If the graphic is lifting from the application area, you may need to repeat steps 5 - 6 and wait a few more minutes for adhesion.

Note: Adhesion may be difficult in cold weather, humid areas or if the surface has not been properly cleaned prior to application.

Note: If large air bubbles are present they may be popped with a pin and gentle pressure may be applied to release trapped air. As the vinyl breathes, small bubbles will gradually dissipate over time.
