Our Rwraps Epoxy Resin vinyl films mimic the exotic look of real, poured resins in a air-release wrap. Real epoxy resins are a two-component system consisting of resin and hardener which are formed by mixing the two components. Upon mixing, a chemical reaction takes place so that the liquid resin gradually hardens to a solid plastic within hours. The result is a high-gloss, clear surface but getting there is anything but easy. Skip the hassle and the mess of mixed epoxy resins and put these wraps to work on kitchen counters, backslashes, tables, paintings, architectural elements and vehicles of all kinds.

What is Epoxy Resin?

Epoxy resin is a substance that is made by a set of reagents with an 'epoxy group". This epoxy group is a chemical compound caused by two carbon atoms being bonded to an oxygen atom. This combination allows the epoxy chemical compound to react with nearly anything. This is great if you're looking to utilize it for creating epoxy furniture. The epoxy will adhere and harden once it makes contact with a hard surface.

One-Component Pure Epoxy

One-component epoxy can be used straight out of the container, you will not be required to mix it, meter it, or remove air bubbles.

A negative to using one-component pure epoxy is that it needs to be heated to cure, at an extremely hot temperature. Due to this, you’ll often find that pure epoxy comes with a heating aspect. This element is known as an “initiator" because it will start the curing process. For ones that need induction heating, you’ll need to cure your epoxy for 5-7 minutes at temperatures ranging from 325 degrees Fahrenheit to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. If you're uncomfortable with working with high temperatures, you can opt for pure epoxy that can be cured using ultra-violet light. Do keep in mind that One-component types of epoxy resin are more expensive than two-compound types of epoxy resin and generally weaker than,

  • Solid Color Epoxy - This epoxy is a solid color and can be used the same way as standard epoxy. It is a more vibrant color, however, which will really make your epoxy furniture pop!
  • Translucent Epoxy -  Translucent epoxy utilizes mica powder to make epoxy resin for furniture.
  • Resin River Table - This type of epoxy table resembles a river running through the middle of two slabs of live edge wood. This is an extremely common type of epoxy furniture style used. It is primarily one color.

Two-Component Pure Epoxy

Two-component epoxy is utilized far more often than its counterpart when chosen to make epoxy furniture. The two components of this epoxy resin are the hardening aspect and the epoxy. Unlike its one-component counterpart, this epoxy does need to be mixed thoroughly to remove its bubbles.

When the two parts are combined into a mixture, they cause an exothermic reaction, in which the curing process starts. The mixture can be cured at room temperature as well, along with increasing the temperature to speed up the process. Due to environmental factors playing a role in curing, time for curing can vary from a few minutes to nearly 8 hours.

Even after waiting the allotted 8 hours, and believing the epoxy furniture has been cured, it will need to be left alone for a week at room temperature before you test its strength and stress handling. Afterward, you should be good to go with using the epoxy furniture.

  • Swirl Epoxy - This is a two-component low viscosity, high build swirling effect resin that is utilized by woodworkers, resulting in furniture with a swirl finish.
