3M™ 7125 Premium Cast Sign Vinyl
Long-Term Performance for Professional Signage. Unmatched durability, extreme conformability, and brilliant color retention for your most demanding graphic applications.
What Is Cast Vinyl?
Cast vinyl is manufactured by pouring liquid resin onto a highly polished casting sheet, where it is then baked and cured into a solid film. This specialized manufacturing process creates a film that has virtually no internal stress or memory.
Because it was never stretched or rolled into shape like calendered vinyl, cast vinyl will not shrink back to its original form. This makes 3M 7125 exceptionally stable over time, allowing it to conform over complex curves, deep channels, and rivets without lifting or tenting.
Why Professionals Choose 7125
Maximum Durability
Engineered to withstand harsh outdoor environments, maintaining color and adhesion for up to 8 years.
Extreme Conformability
The 2-mil cast construction easily stretches over corrugations, compound curves, and rivets without failure.
Superior Weeding
Features a clear synthetic liner that prevents moisture absorption and allows for precise, fast weeding of small text.
Permanent Adhesion
Clear, pressure-sensitive permanent adhesive ensures your graphics stay exactly where you put them.
Cast vs Calendered Comparison
Choosing the right film type is critical for the success of your project. While calendered films are cost-effective for short-term, flat applications, 3M 7125 Cast Vinyl is required for long-term outdoor exposure and complex surfaces.
| Feature | 3M 7125 Cast Vinyl | Standard Calendered Vinyl |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing Process | Poured as a liquid, baked flat | Rolled and stretched through heated cylinders |
| Film Memory / Shrinkage | Zero memory, will not shrink | High memory, prone to edge shrinkage over time |
| Conformability | Excellent (rivets, compound curves) | Poor (flat to simple curves only) |
| Thickness | 2 mil (ultra-thin, paint-like finish) | 3 mil to 4 mil (thicker, stiffer) |
| Outdoor Durability | 7 to 8 years | 3 to 5 years |
| Best Applications | Vehicle wraps, marine, long-term signage | Storefront windows, short-term promotions |
Long-Term Outdoor Durability
3M 7125 is the industry standard for longevity. When properly installed, black and white films offer up to 8 years of outdoor durability, while colors provide up to 7 years. This ensures your architectural graphics and fleet lettering remain vibrant and intact long after cheaper films have cracked or faded.
Color Availability
Available in a massive spectrum of over 60 high-gloss colors, plus matte black and matte white. Whether you are matching a specific corporate brand identity or creating custom vehicle striping, 3M 7125 delivers consistent, opaque color coverage.
Applications
Vehicle Lettering
The preferred choice for commercial fleet lettering and DOT numbers due to its conformability over vehicle body lines.
Architectural Graphics
Ideal for long-term exterior building signage, directional wayfinding, and premium window graphics.
Marine Graphics
Highly resistant to water, salt, and UV exposure, making it perfect for boat registration numbers and hull graphics.
Long-Term Signage
Used for permanent outdoor monument signs, real estate development boards, and heavy equipment markings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print on 3M 7125 cast vinyl?
No, 3M 7125 is an opaque, solid-color film designed specifically for electronic cutting (plotters) and thermal transfer printing. It is not formulated to accept wide-format digital inkjet inks (solvent, latex, or UV). If you need a printable cast film, look for 3M IJ180mC.
Is 3M 7125 removable?
3M 7125 features a permanent adhesive. While it can be removed with the application of heat and chemical adhesive removers, it is not designed for easy, clean removability like a temporary wrap film. It is intended for long-term, permanent installations.
Why does 7125 use a synthetic liner?
The clear synthetic (polyethylene-coated) liner prevents moisture absorption, which keeps the liner from curling or warping in humid environments. It also provides a smoother surface that allows for faster, more precise weeding of small, intricate text and graphics.
Do I need to use application tape with this film?
Yes. Because 3M 7125 is an ultra-thin 2-mil cast film, it is extremely flexible and floppy once removed from the liner. You must use a high-quality transfer tape (application mask) to lift your weeded design off the liner and transfer it cleanly to the application surface without stretching or distorting the vinyl.
