Why Maroon Wraps Are Popular

Maroon vinyl wrap is one of the most requested dark red colors in the wrap market. It works on vehicles where bright red feels too aggressive and black or gray feels too common. Maroon sits in a unique space — it is deep, sophisticated and unmistakably custom without being loud about it.

Maroon is also a strong choice for interior accents, rims, cabinets and appliances where a dark reddish tone adds warmth without the visual weight of black. It is popular for classic car restorations, muscle car builds, luxury SUV wraps and commercial fleet rebranding projects where a premium color signals quality.

Maroon vinyl wrap is a dark reddish-brown color. Burgundy vinyl wrap leans more purple-red. Wine red is brighter and more saturated. Oxblood is darker and more muted. All four are close in tone and are often used interchangeably in wrap projects depending on the installer's preference and the vehicle's existing color.

Maroon, Burgundy, Wine Red and Oxblood Color Differences

These four colors are often confused because they all sit in the dark red family. Here is how they compare on a vehicle:

ORACAL 970RA Maroon Wrap Films

All maroon vinyl wrap films at Rvinyl are ORACAL 970RA Premium Wrapping Cast Film. This is the same film used by professional wrap shops worldwide. Here is what makes it the right choice for maroon wrap projects of any size.

Premium Cast Vinyl Construction

ORACAL 970RA is a cast vinyl film, not a calendered film. Cast construction means the film is manufactured in a way that allows it to conform to compound curves, recessed areas and complex body lines without lifting, tearing or distorting. It is the correct film type for full vehicle wraps, door handles, bumpers and any surface with significant curvature. Calendered film is cheaper but it will shrink back from edges and fail on curves. Cast film does not. If you are wrapping anything more complex than a flat panel, cast is the only choice that makes sense.

Air-Release Adhesive

ORACAL 970RA uses a micro-channel air-release adhesive that allows air bubbles to escape during installation. This makes it significantly easier to apply than standard vinyl, especially on large flat panels like hoods, roofs and doors where trapping air is a common problem. The air-release channels close after installation, leaving a clean, smooth surface. This feature is particularly useful for wrappers who are installing maroon vinyl wrap for the first time and want a more forgiving application experience.

Sold by the Foot for DIY and Pro Installers

Rvinyl sells ORACAL 970RA maroon vinyl wrap by the foot in 60-inch width. This means you can order exactly 5 feet for a hood, 15 feet for a roof and trunk, or 75 feet for a full car wrap without buying a full 150-foot roll. Buying by the foot reduces waste, lowers project cost and lets you test a color before committing to a full wrap. Standard rolls are 150 feet for wrappers who need a full supply for multiple vehicles or large commercial projects.

A maroon full wrap on a black-trimmed truck is one of those combinations that looks intentional and expensive without actually being either. Standard rolls are 150 feet. If your project requires more than 100 feet, a full roll is the most cost-effective option. Rvinyl sells by the foot for projects under 100 feet so you only pay for what you need.

How to Install Maroon Vinyl Wrap

ORACAL 970RA maroon vinyl wrap installs the same way as any premium cast film. The air-release adhesive makes it more forgiving than standard vinyl, but proper surface prep and technique still determine the final result.

Wash and Degrease

Wash the surface thoroughly and wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber cloth. Remove all wax, grease, oil and debris. Any contamination under the film will cause adhesion failure.

Measure and Cut

Measure the panel and cut the film with at least 2 to 3 extra inches on all sides. It is much easier to trim excess than to start over with a short piece of maroon film.

Position Before Peeling

Hold the film over the panel and confirm the position before peeling the liner. Maroon is a dark color — misalignment is visible. Take the time to get it right before committing.

Apply with a Squeegee

Peel the liner and apply the film from the center outward using a quality squeegee. The air-release adhesive will help push bubbles out as you work. Do not rush this step.

Use Heat on Curves

Use a heat gun on low to medium heat to stretch the film around curves, bumpers, door handles and recessed areas. Heat makes the cast film more pliable and helps it conform without lifting or creasing.

Trim and Post-Heat

Trim the edges with a sharp precision knife. Apply post-heat to all stretched areas and edges to lock the film in place and prevent lifting. Let the wrap cure for 24 hours before washing.

How Long Does Maroon Vinyl Wrap Last?

Durability Rating

ORACAL 970RA maroon vinyl wrap is rated for up to 7 years on vertical surfaces such as doors, quarter panels and bumpers with proper installation and routine care. Horizontal surfaces like hoods, roofs and trunks typically see 5 to 6 years of durability depending on sun exposure, climate and how the vehicle is stored.

Maroon and dark red vinyl wraps can fade faster than lighter colors in high-UV climates. Parking in a garage or covered space and washing regularly with a pH-neutral soap will extend the life of the wrap significantly.

Wrap vs. Paint

A maroon vinyl wrap is a reversible color change. It can be removed without damaging factory paint when the paint is in good condition and the wrap is removed carefully with heat. This makes it a practical alternative to a full respray for wrappers who want to change the color again in the future or protect the resale value of the vehicle.

A maroon respray is permanent, costs significantly more and cannot be undone without another full repaint. For most custom color projects, a vinyl wrap is the more flexible and cost-effective choice.
