Mercedes-Benz: At the Pinnacle of Performance

Mercedes-Benz is a name which is synonymous with luxury and is perhaps the most famous of German automakers. Yet, Mercedes-Benz is not solely a luxury marque because they offer a complete line-up of cars, trucks and SUVs for both private passenger and fleet use. Mercedes-Benz consistently receives the highest accolades as a result of their incredibly high-quality build processes, use of top-notch materials and possess an engineering knowledge that is beyond compare. Tracing its roots all the way back to 1886, Mercedes-Benz has a pedigree that most other car manufacturers can only dream of although it initially produced motorcycles. In fact, MB holds the world's fist three-wheeled motorcycle patent. Yet, by 1928, it had beguine to make true passenger vehicles such as the SSK which was a roadster able to hit speeds of up to 120 miles per hour!

Mercedes Redefined

As with every other German car manufacturer during World War II, Mercedes-Benz was pressed into service by the Nazi party. After the war, however, the company made a stunning comeback and introduced the iconic 300SL Gullwing. Initially offered as a two-seater coupe with fuel injection, four speeds and namesake gull-wing doors it redefined Benz and gave it an exotic and luxury mystique that it would retain into the present. As the decades passed, MB designed and produced a number of high-powered cars which combined the best of performance and elegance but it was only in 1979, perhaps inspired by the oil crisis, that the company introduced the G Class, a tough crossover wagon destined for military use but available to the public.

King of the Hill

Recent decades have seen Mercedes-Benz rise to unprecedented heights and firmly establish their hold as the king of the luxury hill. The Nineties witnessed the introduction of both CLK Class and the athletic SLK Class. Perhaps harkening back to its foray into the utility vehicle market in the late Seventies, Mercedes-Benz re-entered the SUV segment with the M Class, a midsize entry and has become one of the brand's best sellers. Most recently, the M Class has been joined by the GL and GLK Classes, rounding out the marques line-up of lux SUVs. In step with changing trends, the company has also debuted the Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO Series which is a line of hybrid vehicles.
